I've been asked if Audrey, "Jaded", were being manipulated. The question transpires from the situations that she winds up in while always being associated with other people. Although I'm unable to answer that question about Audrey, I do realize that it's normally being asked because the reader may have crossed relationship situations in "Jaded" that they're familiar with.
What's special about Audrey is that she represents a magnitude of different women. Instead of focusing on Audrey during this topic, we're going to focus on women in general. Manipulation is too broad to zoom in on just one specific person.
Manipulation is a form of controlling another person in a form of trickery. With that being said, we're going to focus on a few less than obvious manipulating relationships signs. In this feature, relationship isn't defined as a romantic one.
LYING:
A manipulating person will often times be caught lying to you. Your reactions to the information is a way to control what you say, do and even associate with. As you grow comfortable with the relationship, the lying will intensify. The manipulator will lie about more severe things. If you don't realize that you're being lied to, you will cling to the person as you move away from other people.
DISPLAYS OF WEAKNESS:
This manipulating person will frequently suffer from illnesses, hardships, isolation, suicidal thoughts etc. This tactic is a way to earn your everlasting pity, comfort, money and so forth.
CAUSES CONSTANT DISAGREEMENT:
You'll find yourself always in some sort of argument with this manipulative person. If it isn't one thing, it is another. As you're always trying to sort through problems with them, you'll find that is all you're doing with yourself.
ENCOURAGES SOCIAL WITHDRAWEL You'll be asked to spend less time with friends and family. There's always a reason why you need to only be associated with the manipulating person. If you're around the right person, they may show you that they see manipulating relationships signs in your life.
THEY ARE NEVER WRONG
They can drop a cup of ice and it'll be your fault for freezing the cubes for too long. It's always something to generate self pity to keep you around to prove yourself to them.
Hmmm Does this sound like Audrey's situation? Talk to me
